10-Year-Old Boy Sues Man For Killing His Father On Mother’s Day

Miles Turnage Has Filed a Wrongful Death Suit Against Piedmont Wealth Manager Timothy Hamano
OAKLAND–Today, Boone Callaway of Callaway & Wolf announced the filing of a lawsuit on behalf of Miles Turnage. Miles Turnage is the 10-year-old boy whose father, Gregory Turnage Jr., was tragically struck by Timothy Hamano’s vehicle and killed as he walked down a neighborhood sidewalk this past Mother’s Day.
“Gregory was standing on the sidewalk in his own neighborhood when he was run over and killed,” said the family’s attorney, Boone Callaway. “It shocked the community. It devastated this family. And it left this ten-year-old boy without a father. This lawsuit has one goal; to provide for the son Gregory left behind after he was struck by Mr. Hamano’s vehicle, who allegedly fled and left him to die.”

Mr. Hamano appeared virtually for his hearing in Dublin this afternoon where he was arraigned on charges of felony hit-and-run leading to death as well as vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
“We are struggling to navigate this overwhelming grief,” said Greg Turnage Jr’s partner, Angie Brey. “Greg’s absence has left a devastating hole in our lives. Our son, Miles, cannot bring himself to speak about his father because it is too painful. My days have become an endless loop of reminders that our son and I are now forced to go on living without Greg. This has meant reliving the panic, trauma, and heartbreak on a daily basis, and the pain is relentless. Our family cannot begin our healing journey until justice has been done.”
The lawsuit filed today alleges negligence and wrongful death. The lawsuit filed in Alameda County Superior Court, on May 9, 2021, includes allegations based on information obtained from the Oakland Police Dept. indicating that Mr. Hamano celebrated Mother’s Day and consumed alcoholic beverages at two or more locations, including multiple beers at a San Francisco golf course before consuming Bloody Mary’s and wine at a San Francisco restaurant. Thereafter, Mr. Hamano is alleged to have gotten behind the wheel of his vehicle and, at the intersection of Park Boulevard and Beaumont Avenue in the City of Oakland, failed to control his vehicle and left his lane of traffic, driving up onto the sidewalk and striking and killing Gregory Turnage Jr. He was 41. The car also struck some parked cars with such force that the vehicle’s airbags were deployed. Following the collision, Mr. Hamano is alleged to have fled the scene of the accident. Mr. Turnage’s injuries proved fatal, and he died in the hospital later that day.
“I lost my son on Mother’s Day, and Miles lost his father,” said Greg Turnage Jr’s mother, Mina Carrillo. “This was a senseless death that was preventable had Mr. Hamano acted like a responsible adult.”
The case is Turnage v Hamano, civil case number RG21106759. The criminal case number is 21-CR-008025.
